The Standard grade ceramic is designed to remove suspended solids and pathogenic bacteria. Standard elements are available as either a candle or a cartridge. The Standard ceramic elements may be used in either gravity or pressure filter housing. Even though the cost for the Standard is the lowest of the Doulton elements, the market for Standard elements is very low in the United States due to the requirement for boiling after cleaning.

Standard filter elements require sterilization after cleaning. To do this, place the candle in a container of water and boil for 20 minutes. Allow the candle to cool before replacing it in the filter housing.
* NOTE:It is important to remember that the outer surface of these or any other non-self-sterilizing cartridges may be covered with harmful bacteria, so sensible hygiene precautions should be taken during handling, cleaning, refitting into the housing or disposal.
